Setting up a NASENCO Course

Some information for potential providers

The National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) is a Masters level course. Students will achieve a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Education. A PGCert is equivalent to one third of a complete Masters qualification. On successful completion of the NASENCo course they will also receive the NASENCo Award.

As a Masters level course the NASENCo Award can only be awarded by a university. Therefore, all non-university potential providers MUST, before setting up a NASENCo course, have their NASENCo courses validated by a university, because only a university can award a PGCert.

This applies to all school based potential providers, multi academy trusts and private providers.

Initial advice on this process can be sought through Leading Learning for Special Educational Needs & Disability Community Interest Company (LLSENDCiC) but discussions and the due process will have to be entered into with a university interested in working with a provider. The NASENCo course must not be designed, recruited to or taught before university validation is agreed. This can be a lengthy process.
